About the Program
Program Affiliation: Roman Catholic, Order of St. Benedict, Our Lady of Grace Monastery
Goal of Program:
The goal of the Benedictine volunteer program is to provide women an opportunity to experience the monastic rhythm of prayer, work and community living while joining us in service to those seeking a time of retreat, the elderly and the poor in a number of settings. The experience provides time for entering into the life of the monastery and enjoying leisure activities with the Sisters, retreat and reflection time as well as experiencing a taste of Indianapolis.
Types of Volunteer Service Placements:
Volunteers will live with the monastic community and follow the schedule for daily prayer, Mass and meals. Participants will provide service in our retreat center including preparing rooms and spaces for guests, signing in guests for programs, assisting in retreat center dining room, assisting with our peace and nature garden (gardening), and designing a program if volunteering for more than 3 months. In our community operated retirement community, volunteers can assist the liturgist in preparing the chapel for Mass and taking communion to residents, cantor for Mass (if musically inclined) and assisting the activity director with activities for residents. Volunteers may also participate in various outreach activities to the poor along with our Sisters.
